Randy Largent seems like your average father, but there is something different about him.

He is a devoted single parent of two young women, one being a Bradley student, senior Becca Largent.

This past Saturday, Randy Largent, retail director of Bradley dining services, was presented the Parent of the Year Award. It was a humbling and reassuring experience for him.

“I certainly did not expect to win, and as I listened to the letter being read I realized that it was about me,” Largent said. “I was exceptionally surprised and shocked. I felt very honored to have won the award and it made me realize how much I love being a dad and getting to be a part

of my daughters’ education.”
As a single father, Largent played

dual roles of mother and father. A hectic job that, according to him, paid off well in how he raised his daughters.

“It made me proud that as a single father, playing the roles of both mom and dad, I was able to raise two incredibly smart and strong women,” Largent said. “It just shows with a little hard work people can succeed at whatever they set their mind to.”

Out of all the nominations, his stuck out the most. This is interesting because his daughter, Becca, a senior music and psychology double major was the one who nominated him for the award.

“Because my father has worked incredibly hard to provide for both my sister and I and give us every opportunity to achieve our dreams and goals,” Becca Largent said. “He

has never wavered in the amount of love and support he has provided me and my sister, and I could not be more thankful for that.”

The award ceremony was informative for many, thinking about how their parents have made an impact on them as Randy Largent has done with his family. Specifically for Becca, it was a great day to honor her father and all of his hard work.

“He is always there, not only for his family but also anyone else that needs a helping hand,” Becca Largent said. “It takes huge amounts of dedication to give so much heart to others, and my dad does that every day with no reservation.”

The award ceremony displayed how much love and devotion Largent gave to his family and still does to this day. An experience Randy Largent will not forget anytime soon.
