Hypnotist packs room

Chances are if you were in the Michel Student Center Ballroom last Saturday, you were on the edge of your seat. Activities Council of Bradley University (ACBU) hosted Sailesh the Hypnotist.

Megan DeSmet, junior nursing major, was one of the ACBU coordinators who brought the man named “The Best Hypnotist on the Planet” by MTV Europe to campus.

DeSmet said she was amazed by the turnout, even though the show took place during family weekend.

“We did not expect so many people,” DeSmet said. “During last year’s family weekend, we had a

mentalist duo who performed things like mind reading tricks. I think more people just get excited when they hear ‘hypnotist’.”

Saliesh put over a dozen students under hypnosis. He made the students dance in various ways causing the crowd to break out in laughter. Some students twerked and played freeze dance.

The hypnotist pretended to be multiple personas for those hypnotized. The students believed he was “People’s Sexiest Man Alive” and the most beautiful woman they have ever seen.

Saliesh also let the students be unique superheroes with non- traditional powers. They also believed they were the opposite gender trying to find what they wanted in a date.

Because of the unexpectedly high turnout, the student center ballroom seating filled up 10 minutes prior to the show.

Dawson Hubbs, sophomore international studies and political science double major brought his brother to the show.

“My brother and I had a blast and would go back if we didn’t have to stand in the back. It was worth it seeing though seeing kids on stage making fools out of themselves,” Hubbs said.

Saliesh ended the show by giving the students hypnotized a sense of euphoria. He claimed that they would be more self-confident and feel better when they look in the mirror.
