Police Reports: February 11, 2022

  • Around 7:32 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Michel Student Center, two workers got into a physical altercation after arguing over how much work one of them was doing. The suspect started to show aggravated behavior, which prompted the other workers to restrain them, but they then broke free and punched the victim on the left side of the head. Another worker got in the middle of them and tried to break them up but got hit in the back of the head by the suspect, which led to the worker dropping and breaking her phone. When BUPD arrived at the scene, the suspect who hit the other two workers was already gone. The victims and witnesses both told similar stories about what happened. No one was severely injured or accepted any medical help. The next day, the suspect was interviewed by the BUPD over the phone. The suspect claimed that the two victims rushed at her which prompted her to use self-defense. The worker is now suspended and has no plans to come back to work for the university.

  • At 12:20 a.m. on Feb. 5 at the Sigma Chi Fraternity house, a member reported a stolen composite (a framed collection of photos of all active members of the fraternity). The member told the BUPD that two female students who were invited into the house stole the composite. The members did not want to press charges and only wanted their composite back. When the police arrived at the suspects’ house, the women immediately admitted to stealing the composite that was sitting on their kitchen counter. They were told to take it back to the fraternity house and apologize.

  • At Lovelace Hall around 2:35 a.m. on Feb. 5, a student thought that she smelled a gas leak in her room. Due to her not feeling well, she assumed that it was the gas making her feel sick. When BUPD, facilities and the fire department showed up, no one could smell a gas leak. The fire department used their gas meter, but no trace of gas was found. The police escorted the student to Methodist Hospital to be medically evaluated per her request.

  • At 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 at Geisert Hall, a student went to go do his laundry when he discovered a bag of cannabis in the washer. When it was taken into the BUPD station, the bag was weighed at 7.8 grams. However, because it was wet due to the previous student washing it with their clothes, the weight was possibly inaccurate.
