One-on-one: What is the best spring sports event?

The future of the NFL

by Rodrigo Perez

With the Super Bowl behind us, football fans will now be directing their attention to the NFL Draft and waiting for potential draftees who could potentially improve their team.

While the draft can’t be compared to big tournaments such as NCAA’s March Madness, the importance of the draft cannot be ignored. It is one of the best spring sports events because of the impact that it has on the upcoming football season.

As the draft usually goes, no one really knows what will happen, and it’s that anticipation that makes this event just as intense as any other game. You truly never know what you’re going to get.

No team is perfect and there is always room for improvement. Football remains one of America’s most loved sports and the draft gives teams that didn’t do too well last season an opportunity to draft young rising talent.

While first-round picks are the most likely to become NFL superstars, any of these players on the draft could become legendary. Just ask Russell Wilson or Tom Brady, who were third- and sixth-round picks, respectively.

With notable players such as Kyle Hamilton, Derek Stringly Jr. and Aidan Hutchinson up for grabs this year, the anticipation will be high.

The ultimate goal of any team in the NFL is to win the Super Bowl, and the draft is an opportunity to bring in some players to get you there in the future.

A month full of madness

by Skye Gillespie

March Madness is not only the greatest sporting event in the spring but also the greatest sporting event in the entire sports world.

March is a month where sports fans unite worldwide as they pray for a perfect bracket, beg for the underdogs to win and put all of their responsibilities to the side as they wait for “One Shining Moment” to play.

They call it “March Madness” for a reason; this month is full of the unthinkable. Even people who couldn’t care less about college basketball tune in to watch and bet on games.

Walking into class and seeing students watching games on their laptops while dismissing whatever their professor has to say is a truly magical feeling. The air just seems to be fresher in March.

Now, I do understand why the NFL Draft is an important sporting event, but nothing trumps March Madness. Sports fans have the opportunity to see their teams draft their next franchise player and that is certainly special. Want to know what else is special? Watching 68 of the best teams in college basketball compete for their names to be remembered forever.

Not many sporting events will make me more on edge than March Madness, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I will not be sleeping this month; I will be in my room every day and will reconnect with the world when March Madness is over.
