Tennis splits weekend matches

The Bradley tennis team suffered a tough loss over the weekend by losing its first of two Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) matches to Southern Illinois 6-1. Sophomore Alejandra De Lasa scraped out Bradley’s only point of the match winning her match in three sets.

Head coach Matt Tyler and players were not available for comment after repeated attempts from Scout staff members.

The Salukis jumped to an early match lead after sweeping the Braves in three doubles matches. They also took down the Braves in the first, third, fourth and fifth singles matches.

The Braves’ weekend was not over yet, and their resilience showed as they took down Evansville after their loss to Southern Illinois. The win ended a nine-match losing streak against Evansville for the Braves.

Since the 2006 MVC Tournament Bradley has not defeated Evansville. However, the Braves snapped that losing streak with a dominant performance at the Clubs at River City. Sweeping the doubles series and also taking the first, second, third and fourth singles matches drove their 6-1 victory.

The win over Evansville marks the Braves’ first conference victory of the season. They now stand 1-2 heading into this weekend, where they look to improve that MVC record against Wichita State and Missouri State at home.
