AEPi hosts second annual ‘Rock the Block’

This Saturday, the fraternity men of Alpha Epsilon Pi will host their second annual summer send-off event, Rock the Block.

The event will go from 4:30 p.m to 8:00 p.m on Fredonia Avenue. Rock the Block will host free catered food, T-shirts, musical guests, games and giveaways.

According to senior communication major and AEPi member Cody Lefkowitz, each year AEPI works with different sponsors to bring together Bradley students one last time before summer vacation. Lefkowitz said that this year they doubled their amount of sponsors.

“This year, we feel more prepared due to the year of experience holding the event,” senior marketing major and AEPi memeber William Brenits said.

In total, there will be four guest DJs and a performance by Bradley’s female hip-hop dance team Vitality. Local radio station Energy 102.3 FM will broadcast live throughout the event and hold raffles for anyone who wants to participate. Participants will get a chance to get their photograph taken alongside all of the performers, as well as a limited edition Rock the Block T-Shirt.

“I’m most excited to get to host the event with Energy 102.3,” Brentis said. “I’ve been given the privilege of accompanying the radio station’s DJs while announcing promotions, introducing performers and facilitating giveaways.”

This year, the event is expected to attract more than 1,000 people in attendance, according to Lefkowitz. He said in an effort to get people “pumped” and spread the word, AEPi has launched a social media selfie contest for the event. Anyone who sees one of AEPi’s brothers in a shirt with their letters can take a selfie. If participants post the photos on the Facebook event page, they’ll be entered to win a $100 Visa gift card.

“We’ll be out on the quad all week promoting the event, so if you see any of us ask some questions and enter the contest,” Lefkowitz said.

One of the catered food stops at Rock the Block is El Zarape. To help prepare for Saturday’s event, AEPi will be hosting “AEPi Takes over El Zarape” today. Any time a student comes in and mentions Rock the Block, the student receives a 20 percent discount.
