In the last week, Bradley has exhibited the works of several artists on campus. From university alumna and Broadway star Morgan Siobhan Green, to a flute-and-piano faculty recital, supporting Bradley’s arts has never been easier.
Investing in the arts at an educational institution like this one makes sense. A 2023 USC study found that integrating the arts into one’s learning process increases brain functionality and lowers stress.
But it’s also never been more important to reward these performers.
In times of financial crisis, colleges and universities almost always cut arts programs before sports or academics. Bradley’s fiscal situation is no secret, so go see these performers today, because tomorrow, the administration might decide you can’t.
These students often work just as hard as anyone in athletics, so their effort should be supported like that of the basketball or softball teams.
Almost every week, there’s an exhibition of some of the most creative minds on campus. The theater department will be performing the musical “Into the Woods” starting Nov. 6. There’s a symphonic winds concert on Oct. 8. There was a showcase from the Bradley University Speech Team just last night.
If you’re worried about cost, many of these events are free to the public or, at the very least, Bradley students. All you need to give is your time.
For many of the most talented students on campus, that would be more than enough.
