Fit Fair to kick off Get Fit, Stay Fit this semester

The Health and Wellness Center is starting off the Get Fit, Stay Fit program this semester with their first annual Fit Fair. The fair will be held at the Markin Center today from noon to 3 p.m. and tomorrow from 9 a.m. until noon.

The Fit Fair was created by graduate student Jessica Revord, who serves as the Graduate Assistant for the Health and Wellness Center, and the Director of Campus Recreation, Mike Keup. The event will present a variety of different programs that are catered towards promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“[The fair] is something this campus hasn’t seen before,” Revord said. “It will also motivate students to go Markin and work out and have a healthier lifestyle.”

The Health and Wellness Center, dietetic and nursing stu- dents, outside organizations and local businesses such as Running Central will be present at the event to provide information for students.

“We will have a big room of knowledge,” Revord said. “It gives recruiters for health orga- nizations an opportunity to pass on information to students that [students] may not know or have the opportunity to have.”

The fair will consist of 10 dif- ferent stations with varying health topics such as diet, exercise and nutrition. Running Central, the main sponsor of the event, will also aid participants by organizing shoe fittings to ensure students have the correct pair of shoes for running. There will also be run- ning coaches who will assist par- ticipants with tips to improve their strides and form while running.

Senior dietetics major Katie Cavanaugh is working with two groups that are participating in the fair. She said she is looking forward to the event.

“It’s a great opportunity to see what fitness services Bradley and the surrounding communities have to offer,” she said. “[It] is also a great way to learn more information about exercise and nutrition that maybe people wouldn’t normally know.”

There are a number of prizes and incentives for students who attend the event. Get Fit, Stay Fit members will receive 10 points for attending which can go towards their points for this semester.

Running Central is also giving away prizes through raffles that will be held on both days of the fair. The prizes include a pair of shoes, shorts and socks.

“The prizes are going to be huge,” Revord said. “We’re giving away $1000 worth of prizes.”

Junior elementary education major Sinead Garnett, also a Get Fit, Stay Fit participant, said she is looking for a way to gain points this semester.

“This is a way for me to get points and there will be good information there as well,” she said.

Revord said her goal is that 500 people, including students, faculty and the public will attend.

“There’s so much knowledge that will be at the fair,” she said.

“Bradley students should take advantage.”
