Recent graduate dies in car crash

May 2014 graduate Daniel Johnson died in a car accident Sunday, July 6 after colliding head-on with another vehicle.

The collision occurred on U.S. 61 five miles north of Grandview, Iowa when Johnson’s Honda Civic crossed the center line and collided with a southbound Chevy Silverado pulling a utility trailer.

According to investigators of the accident, both drivers attempted to avoid collision by steering toward the southbound shoulder of the road, where they crashed head-on.

After being transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Johnson and the driver of the Silverado were both pronounced dead from injuries sustained during the crash. Another passenger in the Silverado was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Johnson graduated from Bradley this May with his bachelor’s degree in marketing. At Bradley, Johnson was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and the Lacrosse team.

Johnson had just begun work with HON Business Solutions in Iowa. Prior to this, he was a lifelong resident of Naperville, Illinois.

Visitation for Johnson will be Tuesday, July 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Naperville, Illinois. The funeral will be Wednesday, July 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
