Hello! First, let me just say that with everything going on in the world right now, I think it is important we remember to take care of ourselves.
With the election, COVID-19 and the end of the semester just around the corner, it seems like we could all use some self-care.
For me, I like to do something that is productive yet relaxing. I love a lazy day as much as the next gal, but I prefer to do something that makes me feel accomplished.
Whether it is cooking or baking, hunting for deals in thrift shops or finally getting to that book that has been collecting dust on my nightstand, I embrace doing something that makes me feel productive.
For those who prefer the more traditional self-care route, take some time to draw a bath or take a relaxing shower.
For my cishet guys, try some actual shampoo and conditioner—even if it means stealing some from your girlfriend’s shower (now is the perfect time to get rid of your 3-in-1). Try and take some time for self-grooming: trim your facial hair or shave, clean up your eyebrows, clip nails or maybe do some manscaping.
For my girls, gays and theys, you can never go wrong with the stereotypical sheet masks and sugar scrubs. Take the time to deep condition your hair, shave (if that’s your thing) with care and take the time to actually do your post-shower moisturizing and lotion routine.
With the world being such a messy place, it is crucial to take a step back and do things that make you happy and help you feel refreshed. Self-care comes in many forms; it is just a matter of figuring out what suits you best.
Maybe you prefer to take a walk with your roommates, sketch or re-watch “Gossip Girl” for what feels like the thousandth time.
No matter how crazy life, school and the world can get, remember that you and your mental health matter.
The world is a hot mess, but you don’t have to be.
