Kim Kardashian has officially filed for divorce from her third husband, Kanye West. The famous couple was married for almost seven years before they separated.
The eyes of the world are watching to see how the whole divorce plays out between Kim and Kanye’s millions of dollars, four children and several estates across the US.
However, the divorce itself is not what interests this pop culture enthusiast. The real speculation here is what the power couple will do on their own.
Kim Kardashian West has spent her whole career tied to a man in one form or another. From a sex tape with Ray J to a 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries to being Kanye’s plus one at the 2012 Met Gala (an event that had a solid “no reality stars allowed” policy at the time).
Her relationship with Kanye West put her on the path to being considered more than just a reality star. She became a businesswoman with a career, multiple companies — like KKW Beauty and Skims — and is now working to become a lawyer.
Kanye West is successful in his own right as well. With several award-winning albums and his own fashion company, Yeezus is not going to face any financial hardship from the split.
What will be interesting is how the creative mind of Kanye West responds to the divorce. It is safe to assume he will channel his emotions into his creative outlets.
The question is: will we see a new era of Kanye West? Will his new albums be a continuation of his recent dive into spirituality or will there be a return to the angst of “Yeezus.”
Kanye West and Yeezy, his fashion company, are planning to launch a new line, Yeezy Gap, sometime this year, so perhaps music will be put on the back burner for a while.
Even though the marriage is over, the influence created by the union will remain. It is simply a matter of time until the world sees where the chips fall and which side of the couple is stronger: newly single and self-sufficient Kim Kardashian or creative genius Kanye West.
