New Psy single is singing

Korean sensation PSY became an international pop star with “Gangnam Style.” Ever since, audiences have been waiting

for a follow-up. Now that his new song “Gentleman,” is out, it’s following its predecessor and already setting records.

According to Business Insider, “Gentleman’s” music video garnered more views in 24 hours than any other video in Youtube history, with 38 million views in one day. It is currently no. 1 on the iTunes music video chart, while the song has topped iTunes charts in 40 countries.

Just as “Gangnam Style” before it, “Gentleman” features a catchy beat and goofy music video. But what does
it mean? The video is a parody, criticizing men who claim to be gentlemen while treating everyone horribly, exemplified by PSY pulling pranks on those around him.

As for the song itself, the Korean lyrics consist of PSY complimenting women and going on about how he loves to party. Meanwhile, the catchy English lyrics prove to be confusing.

“Mother father gentleman” means exactly what you are thinking. “Mother father” is a mispronunciation of an American swear word, used by Koreans, originally due to lack of English knowledge and now as a means to get around censors.

“Wet PSY,” on the other hand, is not so simply explained. This line references a nickname PSY earned on the Korean variety show “Infinite Challenge” for showing off his sweaty armpits. This is an appropriate shout out, since several “Infinite Challenge” cast members appear in the video as does the clip of PSY’s armpits.

Another notable cameo is that of Ga-In, a member of Korean girl group Brown Eyed Girls. Her presence is

notable because the hip swaying move that goes along with “Gentleman’s” chorus is originally from the music video for Brown Eyed Girls’ 2009 song “Abracadabra.”

This seems to be PSY’s way of using his international success to plug other Korean musicians. It seems to be working, since “Abracadabra’s” music video has been garnering a fair amount of views in the past few days.

“Gentleman” is already another great hit for PSY, though there is no way of knowing if it will reach the success of “Gangnam Style.” Either way, PSY’s goofiness is sure to remain a constant on airwaves and screens around the world.
