Staff Picks: Best week one NFL game

After months without football, the NFL will be back this weekend. Several great matchups should lead to an action-packed week one. In honor of NFL football being back, the Scout’s sports staff chose which game from opening weekend will be the best.

Rams vs. Lions

By Steffen White

Without a doubt, I am most looking forward to Rams vs. Lions on Sunday Night Football. Rams fans have been anticipating this matchup since their one-point loss at the hands of Detroit in the wild-card game last season.

Lions fans have Super Bowl aspirations for the first time in decades.

It will be interesting to see how Sean Mcvay and the Rams plan to stop the high-powered Lions offense without Aaron Donald; however, the main reason to tune into this matchup is for the battle of the quarterbacks. The most important position on the field will be under the spotlight in this one, as the 2021 trade between the two franchises looms large. Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff will be facing their former teams in primetime, making for a treat to watch.

Packers vs. Eagles

By Owen Dimpfl

There are a multitude of reasons why the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles matchup is the most exciting game on the week one NFL schedule.

For starters, it’s the first-ever NFL game in South America as São Paulo, Brazil, is hosting two of the NFC’s top contenders. You can also find the league’s brightest stars everywhere on the field, especially at quarterback with Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts and Green Bay’s Jordan Love. This match should be a thriller and either team could come out with a strong first win.

Chiefs vs. Ravens

By Umar Syed

The best game of week one was on Thursday between Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. It’s the battle of the two-time MVPs. The Baltimore Ravens are looking for redemption after last year’s loss to the Chiefs in the AFC championship game, and the Chiefs are looking to pick up right where they left off and win against the Ravens, beginning their quest for a three-peat.

Bills vs. Cardinals

By Latif Love

The Bills and Cardinals game is the most slept-on game in week one, with a chance to be one of the week’s best games. The game’s familiar faces include Kyler Murray, who is back for his first season in two years, and MVP candidate Josh Allen, who is in his first year without Steffon Diggs. In addition to familiar faces, the game features two rookies, namely Marvin Harrison and Keon Coleman, who could significantly impact their teams this season.
