Designed as a place for locals to gather to play, Just for Fun offers puzzles, board, card, miniature and role-playing games.

The local business at 3010 N. Sterling Ave. is home to over 7,000 different games that customers can buy and play.

“Game stores are pretty much small press because Target and Walmart carry the mass market titles,” said store manager Mike Crouch.

This allows smaller stores like Just For Fun to carry more classic games that may not be offered at chain stores like Target or Walmart.

According to Crouch, his idea to open a game store originated back to the 70s, however, Just for Fun only started in 2005.

Since then, the store has been able to expand its business and the games.

Just for Fun offers weekly activities that allows its customers to engage more in the games. Every Wednesday is its Dungeons and Dragons game night, and every Thursday it has a board game night.

Throughout the year, Just For Fun hosts other events that use props and role-playing games.

Crouch said the store purchases its games from distributors, allowing him to be able to purchase smaller quantities of a larger variety versus a bigger quantity of a smaller variety.

With already so many games, Just For Fun still plans on growing.

Crouch said expanding locations in the future is a long-term goal, but the main focus is on the board games experience.

“Right now, we’re just trying to be good at what we do,” Crouch said. “We’re trying a grow a player base where people have more folks to play with and have more fun.”

Just For Fun seems to have built a solid customer following. Their endless games and events keep regular customers coming back. According to Crouch, some customers come in to buy a board game every couple of months, while others come in weekly just to play.

“You get to the point where everybody knows each other’s kids, and their outside hobbies, and their spouses and their pets,” Crouch said.

Satisfied customers share their satisfaction publicly. On Facebook, customers have voiced their opinions on how they liked the wide selection of games, how fun the place is and how helpful the employees are.

Just For Fun Games is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, they are open from 10 a.m. 9 p.m. and Sundays, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
