Women’s History Month is close to the end, and what better way to honor it than by creating a space where women can share their experiences, express their thoughts and inspire one another?
On Monday, members of Her Campus, an online magazine dedicated to connecting female college students, joined Reconnections, a wellness club, to create a space for women to share their voices.
Her Campus Secretary Breanna Watermolen led the discussion, encouraging attendees to speak about their experiences as young women in leadership positions both on and off campus.
In addition to her position at Her Campus, Watermolen is the president of Hilltop Films, a short filmmaking club, and a complex residential advisor. She expressed feeling fulfillment in her various roles.
“I do sometimes feel that I am being treated differently as a woman compared to a man, but overall I feel very appreciated,” Watermolen, a junior psychology and criminology major, said. “I love being able to work in these positions and be able to help lead and manage others who have common goals.”
According to Watermolen, having these open discussions about being a woman at Bradley and in modern society allows women’s voices to be heard and appreciated in times where everything can seem out of control.
Reconnections founder and president Kailyn Pritchett expressed excitement about the collaboration.
“I love partnering with organizations such as Her Campus or anything related to the women and gender studies area,” Pritchett, a freshman computer science and information systems major, said.
Pritchett reflected on starting Reconnections last year and emphasized the importance of mental health awareness, highlighting the impact of gender on mental health. Any students interested in joining Reconnections are welcome.
Her Campus President Kylie Kruis shared a similar sentiment, encouraging students to join the organization.
“For anyone who has heard of us and is considering joining, don’t be afraid to give us a chance. It can be overwhelming to join a writing organization, but we assist you with everything throughout the entire process,” Kruis, a senior psychology and English double major, said. “Despite us being woman-dominated, we are open to everyone, and we love seeing new faces at our meetings!”
