University reports 25 actions of discipline throughout quarantine

A Wednesday afternoon email to all students indicated that Bradley has 25 reported actions of discipline due to non-compliance of the all-student quarantine guidelines – including a student facing suspension for the remainder of the academic year. The new guidelines and rules were established at the beginning of the two-week quarantine on Sept. 8.

Ten students have been given written warnings, 11 were issued $250 fines and there are three students facing potential bans from campus.

The email stated that these actions were taken in response to a lack of physical distancing and mask-wearing violations, as well as students leaving campus for non-essential reasons – including visiting bars – and having guests in their rooms, apartments or off-campus residences.

“We cannot and will not tolerate non-compliance,” university president Stephen Standifird said in a video statement. “I still believe that we can get this under control and remain on campus throughout Thanksgiving as originally planned … being compliant to appropriate behaviors is the only way we can make this happen.”

The university also updated its “Requirements, Reporting and Enforcement” page to detail sanctions regarding non-compliance. Students may be written up, dismissed or suspended from campus for being involved with a large gathering of people in a public space; potentially fined for having guests in their residence, engaging in nonessential errands or off-campus activities and non-essential travel outside the Peoria area; or banned from campus for violating quarantine or isolation.

Organizations reported for hosting social events or parties can face suspension, dismissal or revoked privileges of housing releases.

According to the page, the sanctions may consider the individual, host, guest and organization in the action of non-compliance. Acts of non-compliance can be reported through the online form.
