G Phi hosts yearly Cresent Classic

Shoot for the moon, because Gamma Phi Beta (G Phi) sorority’s Crescent Class Week is setting the bar high.

G Phi’s philanthropy week started Tuesday with Subway Night, followed by a Grill Off Wednesday on Olin Quad. Students played games on the quad, and members of various fraternities competed for best burger with Phi Kappa Tau fraternity coming out on top.

Thursday night was their popular annual event, Grilled Cheese with G Phi Bs, at the sorority house, but even students stuck studying at the library could call for a grilled cheese delivery.

The G Phis host the Crescent Classic Week every year to support their philanthropies, Girls on the Run, Camp Fire USA and Girl Guides of Canada. Combined, the organizations make up the Building Strong Girls organization.

Bradley’s G Phi chapter focuses on raising funds for Girls on the Run and Camp Fire USA, said G Phi public relations vice president Airin Virgilio.

Girls on the Run is an after-school program dedicated to fostering self-confidence in young girls through athletic achievement.

Similarly, Camp Fire USA helps young people learn to care for themselves, their environment and the people around them with the aid of supportive mentors.

According to sophomore advertising major Virgilio, these organizations’ partnership with G Phi enables the programs work to lead girls toward goals of personal achievement and self-reliance, not only on a national scale but within the Peoria community.

“I think it’s so important for women to feel they can step up and change the world, especially at a young age,” she said.
