Taking BU home helps recruit students

Students having a hard time leaving the Hilltop home for winter break can take their Bradley experiences with them thanks to the Admissions Department’s program, Take Bradley Home for the Holidays.

This program invites students to help recruitment efforts by sharing their personal Bradley stories with students at their high schools.

“Bradley Admissions staff members travel the country representing the University at high school visits and college fairs throughout the year, sharing information with guidance counselors,” Associate Director of Admissions Lindsey Cheney said. “An important part of the college decision-making process is for high school counselors and students to hear Bradley student perspectives.”

All students in good academic standing are invited to participate. The Admissions Department will provide participants with packets of information and talking points to use while visiting their high schools over break.

“The goal of this project is to provide high school counselors from across the nation with success stories from their former students in the hopes that more students from their school will consider life on the Hilltop,” Cheney said. “High school counselors love to hear how their former students are doing on their college campuses, and students’ personal stories enhance recruitment opportunities.”
According to Cheney, students who are “positive, enthusiastic, professional and are willing to follow through” are ideal for this program.

“Bradley students love participating in this project because it provides them an opportunity to give back to the university and to their high school by helping recruit future Bradley students,” Cheney said.

Junior dietetics major Emma Walser shared her story at her high school, Rockwood Summit, in Missouri.
“I participated in the program because I love Bradley,” Walser said. “Applying to Bradley and getting in, moving out of state and making my education what I wanted it to be was exciting to me…I am so proud to be a Bradley student. I wanted other students from St. Louis to consider Bradley rather than just following the crowd and heading to Mizzou.”

According to Cheney, 94 students participated in the program last year, reaching more than 50 high schools. This was an expansion from the previous year, which saw 30 students visiting 19 high schools.
