Top five TikTok edits of past and present movies and shows

Graphic by Audrey Garcia

Edits have become a staple in the fandom world, and The Scout’s resident fangirl has a collection of over 4,000. Out of that large number, five reign supreme.

5. Anakin Skywalker’s transformation by @cremxte

One of the best villains in movie history started as a regular Jedi, and this edit shows his fall from grace. The use of Darth Vader’s voice speaking over the song “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” by Taylor Swift gives a haunting aura to the edit. Viewers are taken through the rise and fall of Anakin, from the beginning of his training as a Jedi to his emergence as Darth Vader and fight with his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi.

4. Avatar the Last Airbender’s last fight by @ghongvfx

It takes a lot of skill to match up scenes with lyrics, but this user did it perfectly. This edit takes viewers through Aang’s training journey to his fight with the Firelord, using the song “Make a Man out of You,” from “Mulan.” All the scenes chosen fit the vibe and essence of the tune, which are important to a good edit.

3. The humor of the “Ted Lasso” series by @mdkzin.films

Despite the lengthy introduction, this edit is addicting to watch. It’s not because of the humorous song, “Bye, Bye, Bye” by NSYNC, that gets stuck in your head; rather, it is the use of slow motion. Within the edit, scenes are slowed to the beat before switching to the next, forcing the viewer to pay extra close attention to not miss what’s coming next.

2. The Dragon Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen by @user khirq

After a somewhat mediocre season two of “House of the Dragon,” this edit makes fans want to bend the knee to Rhaenyra Targaryen all over again. From the choir version of “Like a Prayer” by Madonna playing in the background to the voiceovers of characters, this edit works not only as a trailer for the epic war that is soon to come, but also as a perfect ode to the rightful queen.

1. Every second counts, “The Bear” by @hfkdkek

This edit perfectly encapsulates the essence of “The Bear.” It shows the comparison between the characters Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri) and Carmen Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) as they race to open a restaurant together.

“Wait for It” from “Hamilton” was the best choice for the song, seeing as Sydney and Carmen are opposite sides of the same coin. The scenes chosen match wonderfully to the lyrics as they appear on the screen. And when someone asks “What’s the best edit you’ve ever seen?” it would be this one every time.

Edits will never get boring as long as editors continue to create their own mini-movies using their favorite media. It keeps fans engaged with one another and with the fandom and appreciating their favorites in a new light.
