Basketball offseason roster update

As Geno Ford settles into Peoria, he’s had no time to waste as he gets the roster set for next season.

Previous coach Jim Les had signed four recruits to letters of intent and was returning all but two players next year.

But as Ford gets to work, the dust is beginning to settle.

The first step shaping the roster next season is the departure of redshirt freshman Andrew Davis.

Davis plans to transfer to Oklahoma State where he will not play basketball for the Cowboys.

“I appreciate how difficult it can be to redshirt a season and to endure a coaching change,” said Ford.  “But by all accounts, Andrew has handled the situation very well and we wish him the best of luck.”

Because he sat out last season, Davis would have four years left of eligibility.

Davis is from Oklahoma and said he wanted to be closer to his family.

“I have enjoyed my time at Bradley and appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the Braves Basketball program,” said Davis,.“But I really want to be closer to home and focus on my studies as I prepare for my future after college.”

One of Jim Les’ most heralded recruits, Remy Abell, has asked for his release from the program according to media outlets in Kentucky.

“I told them that I wanted out of the letter and now I am basically waiting for them to fax it to the school,” Abell told the Louisville Courier-Journal. “Everything is in place. They told me that they appreciated me being patient with them.”

Ford had traveled to Kentucky to talk to Abell but he was not able to convince him to continue to come to Bradley.

But this week hasn’t just been about goodbyes. There may be hellos in the future.

Jalen Crawford from Oak Park, Missouri, has been very active on Twitter about just about everything. But the important tweet for Bradley fans is one that read, “Bradley: Home of the Brave.”

Crawford is the younger brother of both former Xavier star and current Washington Wizard Jordan Crawford and former Kentucky Wildcat Joe Crawford.

The athletic department cannot comment on Crawford until he signs a letter of intent but did confirm they are recruiting him.
