The Student Senate held its first general assembly to plan out the semester and address summer changes and progress on Monday.
Students representing various positions, committees and departments disclosed what students can expect from them this school year.
“We covered a lot of material and had lots of new faces at the Senate,” Ryan Dodd, junior computer science major and Chairperson of Internal Affairs, said. “I think everyone is still learning their role a little bit, but in a week or two we will all be settled in and really be able to do business.”
The Senate also aims to solve issues between students and the Bradley administration.
“We are going to help mend that gap between the administration and students to the best of our ability,” Adalia Yeung, junior political science and student body president, said. “That begins with building trust with students because that is the most important thing to us.”
Senate also plans for reforms to ensure they can handle the remaining issues and roadblocks the Senate ran into last school year.
“I’ll be working on some major bylaw and constitution rewrites,” Dodd said. “Hopefully [it will] make the language more inclusive, clean up some issues with some senate bureaucracy, and make the Student Senate more accessible to people.”
Senate hopes to get more students involved within the organization and educate them on what the Senate provides for campus.
“If you are even slightly interested in the Senate, please come out and get to know us,” Yeung said. “We are always wanting to connect with students in whatever ways we can.”
